Although Uncaria tomentosa plants look alike to the naked eye, they occur in nature with two very different chemical makeups, called chemotypes. One chemotype provides POAs, the type of oxindole alkaloids (OAs) shown to benefit both natural and acquired immunity.† The second chemotype provides TOAs, the type of OAs that DO NOT benefit acquired immunity and CANCEL the benefits provided by POAs. The only way to identify the chemotype that provides the desired benefits is to analyze each plant at harvest time.
